Pc Gaming Vs Console

Once again an ongoing discussion; 'Is pc gaming better than console and does it have better graphics?'

Well to answer your answer we must look into the history of pc and console gaming to understand how these technologies have changed and developed throughout the past years. I wasn't much of a history fan at school but here are some of the key gaming historical events that have occurred.

KEY GAMING EVENTS THAT HAVE OCCURRED (2000-2009)

2000

  • Sony released its second console, the PlayStation 2. The PlayStation has gone to be the best selling console to date. This console alone could reach 299Mhz.
  • AMD and Intel release their own 1Ghz processors.

2001

  • Microsoft surprised everyone by releasing their very own gaming console, the Xbox. At the time Microsoft was known for producing software not so much gaming consoles.
  • One of the best FPS shooters of all time, Halo was also released that year including many praises to the story, graphics and multilayer.

2002

  • In this year there were no console that had integrated online support. Microsoft saw this as a chance and later developed to what is known today as Xbox Live.

2003

  • After Value released its first stable release on steam, it kick-started a revolution for pc gaming. Later Steam become very popular to pc gamers. ]
  • NVIDIA released one of the most gaming brands, the GeForce FX, DirectX 9.0 compatible 3D cards
  • AMD releases the Athlon 64 which is built K8 micro-architecture and the first 64-bit processor for consumers

2004

  • World of Warcraft made its fame by becoming one of the largest online gaming communities. This helped pc fans as it was cross-platform with 62% of the online game subscriptions
  • NVIDIA releases GeForce 6800 and a few weeks later ATI announces X800 with nearly the same performance.

2005

  • The original Xbox was a big seller that Microsoft later in 2005 released the Xbox 360. However despite the company's efforts it turned out that the console had problems that caused fatal damage to the disks and the console itself.
  • Shadow of the Colossus was published this year as well as its graphics were astounding at the time
  • Intel and AMD developed a processor that could twice as fast than the previous processor, the dual core 64-bit processors.

2006

  • Following Microsoft's popular release of its new console Sony developed the PlayStation 3. Nintendo also saw this as a chance to release its console, the Nintendo Wii.
  • Intel plans to develop a 80-core processor that would exceed 1 TFLOP

2007

  • The Phenom line of high performance processors were later released by AMD positioning them as a mid-range line.
  • Crysis was a very demanding game graphically and processor wise when it was released in 2007

2008

  • Smash Brothers is released by Nintendo

2009

  • Windows 7 is released
  • First sandbox game, Minecraft is released
Based on the history and complexion of the information above one could have trouble deciding on whether a console or pc is better for gaming. However put this into mind, even with the new releases of the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One, even if they have more computing and graphical power than the processors and graphics cards today, pc hardware will always change dramatically as new processors and graphics cards are currently developed and made each year therefore the consoles will always go out of date. Below is an image of the 3 gaming machines, PS4, Xbox One and Pc:

You can't really tell the difference. I can't but people do point out that pc will always be superior to consoles because of the raw power they have, in addition new hardware for pc comes out nearly next year as said above.
This is personally why I prefer pc than console as new and better technologies always come out and I can easily upgrade my pc while for a console you can't.

If you liked this post please share and comment on what you think about pc and console gaming.
